Use of voluntary covid pass extended to February 121621

The government announced the extension of the voluntary (and not mandatory) use of the covid pass until February 7, 2022.

The covid pass is obtained through a Quick Response Security code, QR, which is a type of barcode that contains the person's vaccination information. This technology will allow for quick verification of the status of vaccination against covid-19.

The voluntary use of this requirement to enter most places such as shops, restaurants, tourist places, among others, was originally established to take effect on January 7, 2022, but that changed.

Tourists who don't have a covid pass yet are expected to show their vaccination card provided in their country of origin, according to the Ministry of Health.

The new covid pass rule allows businesses to require the covid pass of all customers, which in turn will permit more clients inside the establishment. Otherwise, if the business allows entering mixed-status vaccinated clientele (with and without the covid pass) the number of people allowed to enter is reduced.

Recently, more than 150 support centers to obtain the covid pass have been enabled in the country.

Approximately 91% of that target population or 3,922,190 people have received their first anti covid vaccine dose.

As of Friday, Costa Rica has imported 7,954,785 vaccines against covid-19.

Authorities reported on Thursday 7,336 deaths listed as covid-19 related, approximately a 1.3% death rate, according to the Health Ministry statistics. The pandemic has killed more than 5.3 million people worldwide, reported Johns Hopkins University.
