Things to do this weekend 101521

Before planning your weekend outdoor activities take into account the well-known sanitary guidelines to avoid getting infected by covid-19. Check out the Driving Restrictions established by the Emergency Commission. Here is a list of in-person activities for this weekend, beginning today through Sunday, Oct. 17.

Outdoor activities



On Saturday.

Visit the Eco STEAM Day Camp in Cobano Puntarenas Province. The activity is organized by the Mangrove Society for children to learn with games and STEAM methods. The activity is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for children from 6 to 12 years old. For more information call 8532-2315.


Saturday and Sunday Judo championship knockout organized by the Costa Rican Taekwondo Federation will take place at the National Gym in Sabana Canton, San José for free. On Saturday the game starts at 8 a.m. and on Sunday it will start at 6 p.m. For more information call 2220-1310.


On Sunday.

Tour for bikers from San José to Puntarenas is organized by Revolution Bikers CR Club. The tour starts at 7 a.m. from La Uruca Canton, San José Province. Free for bikers. For more information visit the Club's Facebook page.


Starting at 9 a.m. the Folk Crafts Sales Fair is organized by Café Rancho Arizona, located in Santo Domingo Canton, Heredia Province. Visitors could also buy traditional meals and drinks. For more information call 8814-5640.


Hiking tour will take place in the Turrialba National Park, organized by Biocaminatas Hiking Club. The activity is a medium-level of difficulty with a tour of approximately 5 hours. The tour begins at 5 a.m. The cost per person is between $25 pp or $40 pp with transportation from San José included. The price includes a professional tour guide, entrance to the park, and first aid kit. For more information call 8829-9455.


Handicrafts and handmade products fair will take place at Los Sueńos Marriott Ocean & Golf Resort in Herradura Beach, Puntarenas Province. The free activity is organized by Jaco Impact Club and begins at 9 a.m. For more information call 8438 - 4327.


This weekend.

Sea turtles arrival at Ostional National Park, Guanacaste Province starts at 6:30 a.m. with an expert guide from the Ostional Tourist Guides Association. Price $8 pp. Make reservations by calling 6252-7412 or 8447-0703 or 2682-0428.


The free Pan American Fishing Tournament, known as Jalova, will take place at 11 a.m. at Parismina River Limón Province, organized by Kayakeros Fishing Club. Professional fishermen from Panama, Mexico, United States, Canada, Argentina among others will compete. For more information call 7031-6161.



One day tour in the Laberinto Katira Park, located in Guatuso Canton, Alajuela Province, where the visitor can walk through natural areas and explore the two largest mazes in the country. The park is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Entry price is $5 pp. and free for children under 5 years old. Call for more information 8530-5414.


Check out the Whale Watching Tour in Parque Marino Ballena, organized by Costa Rica Tour Deals. The price is $69 pp that includes a boat tour and lunch. Call for more information 6205-3658.


Diquis Museum offers walking tours through the archeological zone known as Finca Sitio 6, in Palmar Sur, Osa Canton, Puntarenas Province. Tours are from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.  The ticket is $7 pp and must be paid by credit or debit card. Call for more information 2100-6000.


Simón Bolívar Zoo
in downtown San José opens  at 9 a.m. The place is home to more than 70 species of animals and a large number of tropical plants. Entrance costs about $7 pp at the zoo box office.


Santa Ana Conservation Center
, located in the city of the same name in San José Province, opens  at 9 a.m. The place has animal farms, trails and tropical gardens. The entry costs about $7 pp and can be purchased at the zoo's box office.


Lankester Botanical Gardens
, a set of gardens located in Dulce Nombre Canton, Cartago Province, opens from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The entry price is about $10 pp at the box office. Reserve a spot by calling 2511-7949.


Sky Adventures Parks
are located in Monteverde, Puntarenas Province, Arenal in Alajuela, Vandará and Conchal in Guanacaste Province. They offer one-day tours to the hot springs, zip lines, water slides and horseback riding. For more information call 2479-4100.


Kalambu Hot Springs Water Park
located in La Fortuna, northern zone of Alajuela Province, offers more than 10 aquatic activities and hot springs pools. The park opens from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The price of admission is $8 with access to all pools and water games or $13 including lunch. Free pass for children under 4 years old. Concerts and shows




On Saturday.

Mustang65 rock band will perform at the London Room Central Pub in downtown San José. The concert starts at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $13 pp. Make reservations by calling 8340-8304 or 4030-7500.


Oktoberfest at Mackavela Brew Pub in Los Yoses District, San José Province starts at 4:30 p.m. People will be able to enjoy 8 types of German beers and folk meals. Entry $12 pp. Make reservations by calling 7035-4989.


Oktoberfest is organized by the German Club in Los Yoses District, San José Province. The activity will take place two times: noon and 5 p.m. There will be live German folk music and a variety of beer and folk German meals. Admission is $3 pp, including live music and table. Oktoberfest organized by Beer Designers Brewing Co, this year’s is at Vuelta al Mundo Restaurant in Grecia Canton, Alajuela Province. There will be German folk food and barrel beer. The activity starts at noon. Live music at 6:30 p.m. Entry $5 pp. Make reservations by calling 2494-6065 or 8838-1195.


This weekend.


Oktoberfest at Containers Gastro Park, located in San Blas District, Cartago Province. The free festival is sponsored by Heineken, Smirnoff and Johnnie Walker. In addition to beer and drinks, there will be live music, dance, contests and fast-food. For more information call 7012-8538.


This weekend the National Philharmonic Orchestra is featuring the singer Zoran in three concerts that will take place at 6 pm at the Melico Salazar Theater, downtown San José. Ticket prices range from $31 to $58 depending on the location of the seat, which can be purchased on the E-ticket site.  








Plays



This weekend the Danzaton Festival Dance will be held at the Dance Theater of the Ministry of Culture, downtown San José. On Friday the show starts at 5 pm. On Saturday and Sunday, there are two performances, 2:00 pm and 5:00 pm. The entry price is $12 pp, which can be purchased on the Melico Salazar Theater website. Museums



Friday and Saturday, the Calderón Guardia Museum in downtown San José, presents the Pablo Picasso exhibition, which consists of 40 draws - paintings by the famous Spanish artist. The museum is open from 9 am to 5 pm. Free pass.


Friday and Sunday, National Museum, located in downtown San José, presents the exhibition of stone handicrafts of about 2000 to 1000 years old. The museum hours on Friday are from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. On Sunday, the hours change from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tickets cost $11. For more information call 2211-5700.


This weekend.


Children's Museum, in downtown San José, will explore the Dinosaur exhibit, in addition, there will be 40 rooms with activities for children about science, music, history, among others. The museum opens at 9 a.m. Purchase the $5 tickets on the Museum's website. Make reservations by calling 7003-7070.


Jade Museum in downtown San José will present this weekend the exhibition of the archaeological and artistic pre-colonization period. Entry price $32. The exhibition will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information call 2521-6610.


Gold Museum, in downtown San José, presents the exhibition of Costa Rican bills and coins since 1850. In addition, the new bicentennial coin will be displayed. Also, on display in the exhibit are the 700 pieces of handcrafted gold made by the first population in Costa Rica. The museum opens from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Entry price is $15.



Museum of Art, located in Sabana, San José, presents the exhibition "Habitat Worlds" by Christian Wedel.  The museum is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free entrance and parking.







Movies



This weekend, at local movie theaters, the new film playing this weekend is "The Addams Family 2," which is a sequel to the 2019 animated film.

Additional films in theaters are: “Dune,” "Aurora," "The Many Saints of Newark," "Venom," "No Time to Die," "Escape Room," "Paw Patrol," "Shang-Chi," among others.  
Most of the movie theaters are requesting the ticket to be purchased online, such as Magaly, CCM Cinemas, Cinepolis and CineMark.
