Before planning your weekend outdoor activities take into account the well-known sanitary guidelines to avoid getting infected by covid-19, the most recent Alert Zones and driving restrictions established by the Emergency Commission.

Here is a list of in-person activities for this weekend, beginning today through Sunday, Sept. 19.

Outdoor activities

On Friday, the ChepeCletas Club organized their nightly promenade tour walk through historic places in downtown San José. The tour starts at 6 p.m. Cost is $9 pp. For more information, call 8849-8316.

On Saturday, visit the Eco STEAM Day Camp in Cobano Puntarenas Province. The activity is organized by the Mangrove Society for children to learn with games and the STEAM methods. The activity is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for children from 6 to 12 years old. Cost is $25 pp. For more information call 8532-2315.

On Saturday and Sunday take a stroll to the Dogs & Fun festival organized by Comando Q Dog Club. The activity starts at 7:30 a.m. at the DoubleTree by Hilton Cariari Hotel in Cariari, Heredia Province. Entrance is $13 per adult and $10 per child, which includes breakfast, dog shows, specialists talks and parking. Make reservations by calling 8884 8623.

On Sunday, the handicrafts and handmade products fair will take place at Los Sueños Marriott Ocean & Golf Resort in Herradura Beach, Puntarenas Province. The free activity is organized by Jaco Impact Club and begins at 9 a.m. Free pass. More information by calling 8438 - 4327.

On Sunday, hiking at Dragon Hill, in Caraigres, Aserri Canton, San José. The tour is organized by Locos por el Senderismo Club. The activity is for rookies. The price is $45 per couple, including a tour guide and transportation. Make reservations by calling 7082 - 7025.

This weekend

Diquis Museum offers walking tours through the archeological zone known as Finca Sitio 6, in Palmar Sur, Osa Canton, Puntarenas Province. Tours are from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.  The ticket is $7 pp and must be paid by credit or debit card. Call for more information 2100 6000.

Simón Bolívar Zoo in downtown San José opens  at 9 a.m. The place is home to more than 70 species of animals and a large number of tropical plants. Entrance costs about $7 pp at the zoo box office.

Santa Ana Conservation Center, located in the city of the same name in San José Province, opens  at 9 a.m. The place has animal farms, trails and tropical gardens. The entry costs about $7 pp and can be purchased at the zoo's box office.

Lankester Botanical Gardens, a set of gardens located in Dulce Nombre Canton, Cartago Province, opens from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The entry price is about $10 pp at the box office. Reserve a spot by calling 2511-7949.

Ponderosa Adventure Park located in Liberia Canton, Guanacaste Province, is offering a day tour including a park safari tour, waterfall visit, horseback riding, canopy, and kayak. Ticket prices range from $30 to $66 pp. For reservations call 2288-1000.

Sky Adventures Parks are located in Monteverde, Puntarenas Province, Arenal in Alajuela, Vandará and Conchal in Guanacaste Province. They offer one-day tours such as hot springs, zip lines, water slides, horseback riding. For more information call 2479-4100.

Kalambu Hot Springs Water Park located in La Fortuna, northern zone of Alajuela Province, offers more than 10 aquatic activities and hot springs pools. The park opens from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The price of admission is $8 with access to all pools and water games or $13 including lunch. Free pass for children under 4 years old. Concerts and shows

On Friday, the Eugene O'Neill Theater in downtown San José presents a concert of Bolero music with singers Omar Cascante, Karel Hernández and La Solución Orchestra. (Bolero is a genre of music which originated in eastern Cuba). The show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets cost $10 pp. For more information call 2207- 7561. 

On Friday, Mustang65 rock band will perform at the London Room pub in downtown San José. The concert starts at 6 p.m. Tickets cost $13 pp. Make reservations by calling 8340-8304 or 4030 - 7500.

On Friday, the Argentine singer Pablo Lago will give a free tango concert at Argentinian restaurant AquiEs in Sabana, San José. Make reservations by calling 2221- 5727.

On Friday and Saturday, the National Symphony Orchestra will join up with the Russian violinist Philippe Quint to offer two concerts. On Friday at 5 p.m. and on Sunday at 10 a.m. at the National Theater. Tickets cost between $11 to $3. Tickets are on sale at the theater box office.

On Sunday, If you are a geek fan of Japanese anime and video games, Costa Rica's New Orchestra invites you to the anime music concert that will take place at the Eugene O'Neill Theater at 5 p.m. Tickets cost $10 pp. Make reservation by calling 2207- 7561.


Children's Museum in downtown San José presents a free Dog Festival this weekend. It consists of special activities for pets. Reserve a spot by filling out a form on the museum website Also, the place holds the exhibition "Vida de Bichos" (bugs life)- giant animatronics insects that inhabit the tropics. The activity begins at 9 a.m. Purchase the $5 tickets on the Museum's website. Make reservations by calling 7003 - 7070.

Jade Museum in downtown San José will present this weekend the exhibition of the archaeological and artistic pre-colonization period. Entry price $32. The exhibition will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information call 2521- 6610.

The National Museum, located in downtown San José, will continue this weekend with the exhibition “Blanco, Azul y Rojo” celebrating the 200th anniversary of independence. The museum hours on Friday are from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. On Sunday, the hours change from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tickets cost $11. For more information call 2211- 5700.


On Friday and Saturday, the free African Film Festival will take place at the Movies National Center in downtown San José, starting at 6:30 p.m. Groups of 4 people are allowed per social bubble. Reserve your seating by calling 2542-5217.

The European Film Festival continues at Magaly Theater. This weekend the films playing are "Cry Macho" starring Clint Eastwood, and " Les Parfums" starring Emmanuelle Devon. Movie tickets are about $5 pp.

At local movie theaters, the new film playing this weekend is "Escape Room: Tournament of Champions" a psychological horror film starring Logan Miller.

More films in theaters are "Paw Patrol," "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings," "Don't Breathe 2," among others.

Most of the movie theaters are requesting the ticket to be purchased online, such as CCM Cinemas, Cinepolis and CineMark.
