There are plenty of outdoor activities for this weekend, such as concerts, plays, festivals, shows an amusement parks among many others.

On Friday


National Symphony Orchestra classical music concert at 
Asserri Public High School in San José. The free concert starts at 10 a.m.


The municipality of Cartago Band gives a Star Wars movie soundtrack concert at Paseo Metropoli Mall. The free concert starts at 7 p.m.


The municipality of Puntarenas Band gives a folk music concert at the Puntarenas Pier. The free concert starts at 11 a.m.


The municipality of San José Band gives a free folk music concert. The show starts at 10 a.m. at La Merced Church Park on Second Avenue.  


The Stone Dive rock band is giving a tribute to U.S. bands such as Alice In Chains, Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden at Mundoloco Pub in San José. The concert starts at 8 p.m. The $13 pp tickets are available at the venue box office.


The Eugene O'Neill Theater in Dent District, San José, presents the Loyola Marymount University Choir Concert, featuring the National University Choir. The concert starts at 7 p.m. The $10 pp tickets are available at the theater box office.



On Friday and Saturday



The Entrepreneurs Fair at 
the Puntarenas Pier is organized by the Institute of Ports and includes more than 20 entrepreneur vendors and artisans from the area who will be selling their products. The fair starts at 9 a.m. Free admission.


The National Movie Center in downtown San José presents the African Films festival. The movies start at 7 p.m. Make reservations by calling 2542-5208. Free admission.



The Howlers Rock Band will give two concerts at Manuel Antonio Beach in Puntarenas. On Friday the concert starts at 5 p.m. at  Buru SeaSide Restaurant. On Saturday, the show starts at 7 p.m. at Yolo Sports Bar & Grill.


On Saturday



The National Theater, in downtown San José, presents the Piazzolla Tango concert. The show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets from $75 to $110 18 pp are available at the theater box office.


The Tortugas Rock Band concert at Jazz Cafe Pub in Escazu, San José. The concert starts at 8 p.m. Ticket $13 pp is available at the place's box office.



On Saturday and Sunday


The San José City Festival celebrates the 200th anniversary of the city foundation. On Saturday, the festival includes live music concerts, souvenirs fair, food trucks and games for kids at the National Park starting at 8 a.m. On Sunday, the party starts with a parade of all municipal bands at 9:30 a.m. along Second Avenue. At the parade's end, there will be concerts and a fireworks show. Free admission.


The Clean Wave organization is looking for volunteers for beach cleaning in Guanacaste. The organization recommends wearing comfortable shoes for all activities and bringing your water bottle. Buckets, gloves, sunscreen and water will be provided. On Saturday, the cleaning starts at 9:30 a.m. at Coco Beach. On Sunday, they start at 9:30 a.m. at Tamarindo Beach. The Eugene O'Neill Theater in Dent District, San José, presents a Jazz Concert featuring Luiz Muñoz, Lois Mahalia, Randy Tico and Dan Zimmerman. On Saturday the concert starts at 7 p.m. On Sunday, it starts at 5 p.m. Tickets $10 pp are available at the theater box office.




On Sunday


The Handicrafts Fair at 
Simón Bolívar Zoo, in the Otoya District in San José. At the fair, there will be shops of over 15 artisans and entrepreneurs selling their products. The activity starts at 9 a.m. Tickets $9 pp and $5 for children including admission to other zoo activities, available at the zoo box office.


The municipality of Alajuela Band gives a free folk music concert at Grecia Canton Central Park. The concert starts at noon.






This weekend


The 1887 Theater, in downtown San Jose, presents the play "Idiots Watching the Snow'' featuring the National Theater Company. On Friday and Saturday, the show starts at 7 p.m. On Sunday, it starts at 5 p.m. Only for people over 15 years old. Free admission.

The Expressive Theater at Momentum Shopping Center in Curridabat San José presents the drama play “Lonely Men Island," which is based on the book by José León Sánchez, about the inhumane conditions in which prisoners were treated in San Lucas Island Prison from 1873 to 1991. This play is not recommended for teenagers under 15 years old. On Friday and Saturday, the show starts at 8 p.m. On Sunday, it starts at 6 p.m. Ticket $23 pp is available at the theater box office.


The Pantagruel's Whimsical Dreams exhibition includes drawings and paintings by the Spanish surrealist artist Salvador Dalí at 
the Jade Museum in downtown San José. The exhibition opens at 10 a.m. Ticket $15 pp.

 

Children's Museum in downtown San José features special activities for kids. The museum opens at 9 a.m. Ticket $3 pp is available on the museum's website.  


Tours are available at the Wildlife Rescue Center in Barrio San José District in Alajuela. The animal sanctuary and wildlife conservation center tours include botanical gardens and more than 125 species of rescued animals including sloths, monkeys, jaguars, tapir, birds, and reptiles. They cannot be released back to their natural habitat. Tickets are $30 pp or $15 per child available on the center's website. Make reservations by calling 506 2433-8989.


Tours are available at Kids Saving the Rainforest Wildlife Sanctuary in Quepos Beach, Puntarenas. The non-profit organization is home to nearly 50 animals that cannot be released back into the wild. Ticket is $10 pp. Make reservations by calling 8827-8243 or emailing Chip@kstr.org.


Experience the arrival of sea turtles at Ostional National Park in Guanacaste, beginning at 6:30 a.m. with an expert guide from the Ostional Tourist Guides Association. Tour price $8 pp. Make reservations by calling 6252-7412 or 8447-0703 or 2682-0428.


Games for children, playgrounds and pools are available at Punta Pirata Beach Club in Puntarenas City, Puntarenas. Doors open at 8 a.m. Ticket is $16 pp. Call for more information at 4032-9280.


Free swimming, Zumba, aerobics, sports games, fitness and diving are among many other courses at Ojo de Agua Water Park in San Antonio Belen, Heredia. The club includes a parking area, restaurant, several swimming pools for adults and a swimming pool area for children, a playground, tennis areas, basketball areas and a soccer field. The place opens at 7:30 a.m. Ticket is $3 pp. 


Kalambu Hot Springs Water Park in La Fortuna, Alajuela, offers more than 10 aquatic activities and hot spring pools. The park opens at 10 a.m. Tickets are $8 pp or $13 including lunch. Free for children under 4 years old. For more information call 2479-0170. 


Go ride hopping at the Parque de Diversiones in La Uruca, San José. The amusement park has more than 17 rides such as roller coasters, carousels, twists and bumper cars among many others. Enjoy their food court zone and picnic area. The park opens at 9 a.m. Ticket is $11 pp. For more information visit the park's website.





System of Conservation Areas invites visitors to the Chirripó National Parks in Cartago and Limon, Poás Volcano in Alajuela, Tortuguero in Limon, San Lucas Island in Puntarenas, Irazú Volcano in Cartago and Manuel Antonio Beach in Puntarenas. Make reservations on the organization's website.


Guanacaste Conservation Area invites visitors to both the Santa Rosa and the Horizon Experimental Forest Station in Guanacaste. Tickets are available on the organization's website. Call for more information at 2522-6500 or 2522-6666.


Diquis Museum in Palmar Sur, Osa, Puntarenas, offers walking tours through the archaeological zone known as Finca Sitio 6. Tours are from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Ticket is $7 pp and must be paid by credit or debit card. Call for more information at 2100-6000.


Simón Bolívar Zoo in downtown San José is home to more than 70 species of animals and many tropical plants. Ticket is $5 pp available at the zoo box office. Call for more information at 2280-4561 or 2280-4537.


Lankester Botanical Gardens, a set of gardens located in Dulce Nombre, Cartago opens at 9 a.m. Ticket is $10 pp available on site. Reserve a spot by calling 2511-7949. 


Santa Ana Conservation Center in Santa Ana, San José, has animal farms, trails and gardens. The place opens at 9 a.m. Ticket is $7 pp available at the zoo's box office.


The Art Museum in downtown La Sabana, San José, presents private collections of Latin American artists. The museum is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information call 2257-7202.


National Museum in downtown San José, presents an exhibition of Costa Rica's history and handmade artifacts, including some more than 12,000 years old, made by the first peoples of the region. Museum hours are from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Ticket is $11 pp. For more information call 2211-5700.


Gold Museum in downtown San José presents an exhibition of Costa Rican bills and coins since 1850. Also, in the exhibit are the 700 pieces of handcrafted gold made by the first population in Costa Rica. The museum opens at 9 a.m. Ticket is $15 pp.
