Before planning your weekend activities, take into account the sanitary guidelines to avoid getting infected with covid-19. Don't forget about the weekend driving restrictions. Here is a list of in-person activities, beginning today through Sunday, Feb. 20.



On Friday



Dance, acting and environmental courses open at 
Parque La Libertad Club in downtown Desamparados, San José, for children between ages 7 and 12. Class rates are between $24 to $40 per month. Make reservations by calling 8389-0047 or 2276-9400 or emailing ambiente@parquelalibertad.org.



Juan Santamaria Museum in Alajuela City, Alajuela, presents a free concert with the Alajuela Concert Band. The concert starts at 7 p.m.



On Friday and Saturday, 
the National Movie Center in downtown San José presents an Indie Films Festival. The movies start at 7:00 p.m. Free admission. Make reservations by calling 2542-5217.



On Saturday



National BiciCross Cup 2022 is organized by 
BMX Racing Costa Rica Club. The race will take place at Parque de la Paz in San José, starting at 2 p.m. Bikers interested in participating must pay a $20 registration fee. Free entry. For more information, call 8689-1996.



Eugene O'Neill Theater, in downtown San José, presents a concert with the San Jose Concert Band. The free concert starts at 7 p.m. Call for more information 2207-7561.



Clean Wave Foundation is looking for volunteers for a beach cleanup at Grande Beach in Guanacaste. Cleaning starts at 9:30 a.m. They recommend wearing closed comfortable shoes for all activities, bring a reusable mask and water bottle. On Sunday



Amateur car racing at 
La Marina Racetrack, in Guapiles, Limon. The race starts at 9 a.m. Ticket’s $8. Parking $2. Get more information by calling 6003-4739.



Melico Salazar Theater, in downtown San José, presents an opera concert with the participation of 16 opera singers. The free concert starts at 5 p.m. Attendees must present their covid-pass when entering the theater.



This weekend



National Theater, in downtown San José, presents the play "Violeta respira con branqueas," or Violeta breathes with gills in the English language. On Friday and Saturday, the play starts at 7 p.m. On Sunday the play starts at 5 p.m. Ticket's between $8 and $13 are available at the theater's online box office.





Educational tours are available at Kids Saving the Rainforest Wildlife Sanctuary at Quepos Beach, Puntarenas. The non-profit organization is home to nearly 50 animals that cannot be released back into the wild. Ticket's $10 pp. Make reservations by calling 8827-8243 or emailing Chip@kstr.org.



Games for children, playground and activities for adults at 
Punta Pirata Beach Club in Puntarenas City, Puntarenas. The place opens at 8 a.m. Ticket's $16 pp. Call for more information 4032-9280.



Free swimming, zumba, aerobics, sports games, fitness, diving among many other courses at 
Ojo de Agua Club in San Antonio Belen, Heredia. The place includes a parking area, restaurant, several swimming pools for adults and a swimming pool area for children, a playground, tennis areas, basketball areas and a soccer field. The place opens at 7:30 a.m. Ticket’s $3 pp. No reservation is required to enter. Call for more information 2441-0655.



Kalambu Hot Springs Water Park, in La Fortuna, Alajuela, offers more than 10 aquatic activities and hot spring pools. The park opens at 10 a.m. Ticket's $8 pp or $13 including lunch. Free for children under 4 years old. For more information call 2479-0170.

            


Go ride hopping at the 
Parque de Diversiones in Uruca, San José. The fair has more than 17 amusement rides such as roller coasters, carousels, twists, bumper cars among many others. Enjoy their food court zone and picnic area. The park opens at 9 a.m. Ticket's $11 pp, are available on the park's website.

 


System of Conservation Areas invites visitors to the Chirripó National Parks located between the provinces of Cartago and Limon, Poás Volcano in Alajuela, Tortuguero in Limon, San Lucas Island in Puntarenas, Irazú Volcano in Cartago and Manuel Antonio Beach in Puntarenas. Make reservations for these six parks on the organization's website.



Guanacaste Conservation Area invites visitors to Santa Rosa and the Horizontes Experimental Forest Station both in Guanacaste. Tickets are available on the

Children's Museum in downtown San José is featuring a dinosaur exhibit plus 40 rooms with activities for children about science, music, history, among others. The museum opens at 9 a.m. Ticket’s $5 pp, available on the museum's website. Make reservations by calling 7003-7070.

 


Diquis Museum in Palmar Sur, Osa, Puntarenas, offers walking tours through the archeological zone known as Finca Sitio 6. Tours are from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tickets $7 pp, must be paid by credit or debit card. Call for more information 2100-6000.



Simón Bolívar Zoo in downtown San José is home to more than 70 species of animals and a large number of tropical plants. Ticket's $7 pp, at the zoo box office. For more information call 2280-4561 or 2280-4537.



Lankester Botanical Gardens, a set of gardens located in Dulce Nombre, Cartago, opens at 9 a.m. Ticket's $10 pp, at the box office. Reserve a spot by calling 2511-7949.




Tours at 
Else Kientzler Garden, in Sarchi, Alajuela. The place opens at 9 a.m. Ticket's $4 pp. Make reservations by calling 2454-2070.  

 


Santa Ana Conservation Center, in San Ana, San José. The place opens at 9 a.m., has animal farms, trails and tropical gardens. Tickets $7 pp, and can be purchased at the zoo's box office.



Art Museum in downtown Sabana, San José, presents private collections of Latin American artists. The museum is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information call 2257-7202.

 


National Museum in downtown San José, presents an exhibition of Costa Rica history and handmade artifacts of more than 12,000 years made by the first peoples of the region. The museum hours are from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tickets $11 pp. For more information call 2211-5700.

 


Jade Museum in downtown San José, presents the archeological exhibit of the artistic pre-colonization period. Tickets $32 pp. The exhibition will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information call 2521-6610.

 


Gold Museum in downtown San José presents the exhibition of Costa Rican bills and coins since 1850. The new bicentennial coin will be displayed. Also, in the exhibit are the 700 pieces of handcrafted gold made by the first population in Costa Rica. The museum opens from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets $15 pp.

       


At local movie theaters, the new film playing is "Uncharted," about street-smart Nathan Drake, who is recruited by seasoned treasure hunter, Victor Sullivan, to recover a fortune amassed by Ferdinand Magellan, and lost 500 years ago by the House of Moncada. Starring Tom Holland, Mark Wahlberg and Antonio Banderas


Additional films in theaters are: "Nightmare Alley," "Spencer," "The Matrix Resurrections," "The King's Man," "Sing 2," among others. Most of the movie theaters are requesting the ticket to be purchased online, such as 
MagalyCCM CinemasCinepolis and Cinemark.
