Before planning your weekend activities, take into account the sanitary guidelines to avoid getting infected with covid-19. Don't forget about the weekend driving restrictions. Here is a list of in-person activities, beginning today through Sunday, Jan. 30.


On Friday and Saturday.


The National Movie Center, in downtown San José, presents Latin American films on Democracy and Presidential Elections. The movies start at 7:00 p.m. Free admission. Make reservations by calling 2542-5217.

National BiciCross Cup 2022 is organized by BMX Racing Costa Rica Club. The race will take place at Parque de la Paz, in San Jose, starting at 2 p.m. Bikers interested in participating must pay a $20 registration fee. Free entry. More information by calling 8689-1996.


Cleaning day at Parque la Sabana, San José, organized by Party for the Future Club. The activity starts at 2 p.m. at the entrance to the Museum of Costa Rican Art. Volunteers must bring their gloves. Find more information on the club's Facebook page.


The Municipality of Garabito is looking for volunteers to clean the Hermosa and Jaco beaches, Puntarenas Province. The cleanup day starts at 8 a.m. Volunteers must bring their facemasks, water and sunscreen. Find more information by calling the municipality 4060-2800.

Clean Wave Club is looking for volunteers for a beach cleanup at Grande Beach in Guanacaste. Cleaning starts at 9:30 a.m. They recommend wearing closed comfortable shoes for all activities, bring a reusable mask and water bottle. This weekend.


The indigenous community of Rey Curré in Buenos Aires, Puntarenas Province, celebrates "El Juego de Los Diablitos" (game of the little devils in the English language). This is the most important holiday of the year for the people of Rey Curré that has been celebrated for more than half a millennium. This ancestral practice is one of the oldest indigenous ceremonies in Costa Rica, declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of the country since 2017. Educational tours at Kids Saving the Rainforest Wildlife Sanctuary at Quepos Beach, Puntarenas. The non-profit organization is home to nearly 50 animals that cannot be released back into the wild. Ticket's $10 pp. Make reservations by calling 8827-8243 or emailing Chip@kstr.org.


Go ride hopping at the Parque de Diversiones in Uruca, San José. The fair has more than 17 amusement rides such as roller coasters, carousels, twists, bumper cars among many others. System of Conservation Areas (SINAC) invites visitors to the Chirripó National Parks located between the provinces of Cartago and Limon, Poás Volcano in Alajuela, Tortuguero in Limon, San Lucas Island in Puntarenas, Irazú Volcano in Cartago and Manuel Antonio Beach in Puntarenas. In addition, the public can also buy tickets online for two other national parks, Santa Rosa and the Horizontes Experimental Forest Station in Guanacaste, which are available on the Guanacaste Conservation Area website. Museum of Art in downtown Sabana, San José, presents private collections of Latin American artists. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information call 2257-7202.

 

National Museum in downtown San José presents an exhibition of Costa Rica history and handmade artifacts of more than 12,000 years made by the first peoples of the region. The museum hours are from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Ticket's $11 pp. For more information call 2211-5700.

 

Jade Museum in downtown San José presents the archeological exhibit of the artistic pre-colonization period. Ticket's $32 pp. The exhibition will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information call 2521-6610.

 

Gold Museum in downtown San José presents the exhibition of Costa Rican bills and coins since 1850. The new bicentennial coin will be displayed. Also, in the exhibit are the 700 pieces of handcrafted gold made by the first population in Costa Rica. The museum opens from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Ticket's $15 pp.

       

At local movie theaters, the new film playing is "Nightmare Alley," a thriller film based on the 1946 novel of the same name by William Lindsay Gresham. Starring Bradley Cooper and Cate Blanchett.

Additional films in theaters are: "Spencer," "The Matrix Resurrections," "The King's Man," "Sing 2," among others. Most of the movie theaters are requesting the ticket to be purchased online, such as MagalyCCM CinemasCinepolis and Cinemark.
