Improvements in the radio bases installed on Chira Island in Puntarenas Province, were made to provide higher coverage of telecommunications such as fixed telephone and internet, the Electricity Institute, ICE.

According to the institute, there is currently a 4G LTE mobile network in 11 locations on the island: Bocana, Jícaro, La Reina, Playa Muerto, Pochote, San Antonio, Nancite, Playa Bonita, La Pila, Lagartero and Lagartillo.

The upgrade will reinforce coverage in the community, at school, college, the Intelligent Community Center, among other places.

To carry out the work, a giant crane was shipped to the island in the radio base of the Lagartillo community. "Inhabitants of the community and members of the Isla Development Association helped prepare the land to be able to locate the vehicle properly," the institute said in its statement.

In addition to telecommunication services, the institute continues to develop electrical service networks in remote towns in rural areas. Last week the community of San Martin, in Osa Canton, located in the southern zone of Puntarenas province, for the first time had public electricity service.
