As of June, Traffic Police reported 281 traffic accident deaths, 66 more than the 215 deaths reported in the same period of last year.

 

According to the police report, 130 deaths were motorcyclists, equivalent to 46% of deaths. Thirty seven deaths were of sedan car drivers and 21 bike riders died, police said. 

 

Among the main causes of road accidents this year were speeding which caused 106 fatalities, driving in the opposite lane with 50 fatalities, and recklessness committed by pedestrians with 39 cases among others, police said.

 

Recently, police gave over 9,300 DUI tests.


Police also fined over 7,900 drivers for not using safety devices.


Police targeted more than 18,000 people who received a fine for reckless driving.

 

Last year, more than 300 people died in traffic accidents.


Traffic Police urges people to report suspected speeding to the police by dialing the 911 emergency line.
