The pandemic mandated driving restrictions continue this week, from today Monday, Nov. 8 to Sunday, Nov. 14, as a measure to decrease covid-19 infections, according to the National Emergency Commission.

The 24-hour ban on driving rule applies in the zone inside the capital city, known as the Circunvalación Route, so-called Ruta 39, which includes all the streets that are found around the capital city.

The schedule of cars banned day and night in the capital are:

· Monday, Nov. 8, plates ending in 1 or 2 are banned.

· Tuesday, Nov. 9, plates ending in 3 or 4 are banned.

· Wednesday, Nov. 10, plates ending in 5 or 6 are banned.

· Thursday, Nov. 11, plates ending in 7 or 8 are banned.

· Friday, Nov. 12, plates ending in 9 or 0 are banned.

· No driving restriction applies from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 13 or Sunday, Nov. 14.

Everyone in the country must abide by the nightly driving restrictions that apply from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. of the next day. The only exceptions are for those traveling to authorized places such as the airport, a clinic, work, school, hotel, among others. The list of exceptions that allow any vehicle to drive at night is on the government website under Vehicle Exceptions.

Drivers caught disregarding the driving restrictions must pay a fine of about $180. Readers can verify the car plate number restrictions by visiting the government website’s Vehicle Restriction Alert.

The government confirmed that restrictions should continue until herd immunity can be achieved, which is at least 83% of the population, more than 4.2 million people vaccinated. So far, approximately 55% of the population, more than 2.7 million people have completed their two-dose treatment.

Drivers who want to appeal a fine made by traffic police have the option of claiming by email.

Vehicle owners whose license plates were seized by traffic officers could recover them through home delivery services.

A practical solution to avoid driving is to request a ride-hailing service or use public transportation.
