Expect delays over the next five months, from November 2021 to March 2022, as advances will be made in the construction of the Route 17 central highway of Puntarenas City, known as "Angostura."
According to the Ministry of Transport, the project was budgeted $6.6 million, which is financed with a loan from the Inter-American Development Bank.
The works include widening of about 1.8 miles (2,890 meters) of the highway, which will go from 2 to 4 lanes. In addition, sidewalks, a pedestrian path along the beach, bicycle lanes and an area for panoramic views of the Nicoya Gulf will be built.
It is estimated that in January 2022 the two layers of asphalt and the construction of drains will be achieved. To carry out this work, traffic closures will be made in Chacarita District. Vehicles will be diverted along a temporary route.
In the same period, the new Puntarenas Boulevard, known as "Paseo de los Turistas", will be built, which is about a mile (1,300 meters) tourist area. It is estimated that it will be completed by the end of March 2022, they said. These works include road painting, installation of traffic signs, public lighting network and bus stops.
The final phase of the highway is expected to be completed in June 2022 due to some private property expropriations that are still pending to be solved.
Currently, the ministry is carrying out another important project to improve the road infrastructure, with the construction of a new highway in Cartago Province.
