records show that in Costa Rica, clinics
have applied 8,315,360 vaccines against
covid-19.
Costa Rica's total population is about 5,163,021. Authorities near their herd immunity goal of at least 83% of that population (about 4,274,344 million) to be fully vaccinated. Of that target, records show that 4,059,598 people have received their first dose, including 64,123 children between 5 to 11 years old. There are 3,676,687 people who completed their two-dose treatment. Another 598,228 people need to get fully vaccinated for Costa Rica to reach the herd immunity goal. Plus 579,075 people have received their booster shots. People over the age of 50 are eligible for the booster or third dose, but only if six months have passed since getting their second dose. However, there are certain public hospitals and clinics that are applying the third shot to people over the age of 18, as part of their contingency plan. In Costa Rica, the free basic vaccination requirements for children include the vaccine against covid-19, Tuberculosis, Hepatitis B, Streptococcus, Pneumoniae, Diphtheria, Pertussis, Tetanus, Poliomyelitis, Rotavirus, Haemophilus, Measles, Rubella, Mumps and Varicella. Since 2019, all girls born female over the age of 10 must get the Papillomavirus vaccine. That was the last mandated vaccine, until recently.
The covid-19 vaccination campaign includes nationals, residency DIMEX cardholders and immigrants regardless of immigration status living in Costa Rica over the age of 5 years old. People interested in more information about the vaccination program, should call the Social Security Covid line 905-225-2000 or visit the Covid Vaccination Campaign website. The covid-19 vaccine is available all over the country. Accessibility to getting the vaccine has not been an issue in inoculating people living in Costa Rica. The country has imported more than 8.5 million vaccines against covid-19. This week, the Ministry of Health authorized the private Costa Rican company Farmanova SA to import and distribute AstraZeneca's vaccine against covid-19. According to health authorities statistics, patients without covid-19 vaccinations require longer hospital stays. On Tuesday, the Ministry of Health
reported 7,575 deaths listed as covid-19 related,
approximately a 1.1% death rate. The pandemic has
killed more than 5.6 million people worldwide,
reported Johns Hopkins University.
