After the passage of Tropical Storm Bonnie, last weekend, there are still more than 1,400 people living in the shelters set up by the National Emergency Commission.
According to the commission, they enabled all the municipal emergency committees that will be in charge of the 300 shelters that could be set up in the country. In addition, more than 84 warehouses were supplied with food, medicine, beds and blankets.
Of these, 27 shelters are open in the zones classified on Friday under Red Alert, such as the northern zone of the provinces of Guanacaste, Alajuela, Heredia and Limón.
Several public institutions such as the Ministry of Transportation, the Ministry of Housing, the Electricity Institute, the Help Institute, the Water Institute and the Ministry of Housing announced that they would launch investigations to determine the real damage caused by the storm.
Representatives of these institutions will tour the country to analyze the condition of roads, houses, bridges, drinking water pipes and electrical service networks, among others.
The Weather Red Alert was issued on Friday, ordering the evacuation of almost 5,000 people. They must leave their homes because of the floods due to the overflow of the rivers and the accumulation of rain.
Of these people, about 3,500 had returned to their homes on Sunday.
