By the A.M. Costa Rica staff The natural parks in the country will keep their doors open to visitors during the Christmas and New Year holidays. Within these protected wild areas the staff will be offering activities for tourists, such as hiking, photographs, videos, diving, climbing, bird watching, among other pastimes. In Costa Rica, there are 30 natural parks and 149 protected wild areas, of which 138 are under state administration and the rest are reserves in private properties. Among the most visited national parks are the Chirripó in the Talamanca mountain range, Manuel Antonio Beach in Puntarenas Province and Carara located in the southern zone of the Pacific Coast. Also preferred by tourists are the volcano's natural parks such as Irazú in Cartago Province, Poás in Alajuela Province and the Rincón de la Vieja in Guanacaste Province. The holidays increase travelers into the country, kicking off the holiday tourism season. Sanitary measures are enforced to avoid contagion of covid-19, according to the National System of Conservation Areas, SINAC. In accordance with the sanitary measure, visitors have the option of booking their park entrance tickets online via the SINAC website. All tickets generate a unique QR code that must be shown to park rangers at the entrance. The following six natural parks tickets can be purchased on the SINAC website: Chirripó (in the Talamanca mountain range), Poás, Tortuguero ( in Limon Province), San Lucas island and Manuel Antonio Beach ( in Puntarenas Province) and Irazú Volcano in Cartago Province. In the case of the Santa Rosa and Rincón de la Vieja volcano national parks, both located in Guanacaste Province, the tickets can be purchased online on the Guanacaste Conservation Areas website. People interested in visiting the Barra Honda National Park in Nicoya Peninsula, should reserve tickets by calling 2659-1551. In the case of visiting the Corcovado National Park in the Osa Peninsula, visitors must purchase tickets by emailing at reservaciones.pnc@sinac.go.cr. In the case of the Turrialba Volcano National Park, tickets will continue to be unavailable until further notice due to the risk of volcano eruptions. ------------------------------- What park are you visiting during the holidays?
