By the A.M. Costa Rica staff The national test for school and high school students, known as FARO, will take place beginning today through Friday, Nov. 12. According to the Ministry of Education, the tests will be done in two periods, the first phase this month and the second in December. "The application of FARO tests in 2021 is one of the largest scales in recent years for the ministry," said Melania Brenes, Academic Vice Minister. The cumulative tests will evaluate Spanish, Science and Mathematics material seen during the year which will assess the student’s level of learning. Based on the test results, improvements would be made to the education system, the ministry said. It is expected that about 70,000 school students from public and private schools in the country will take the test. Also, 7,180 private school students and senior students of high schools will take the national test. The application of the tests will be carried out in person at the school or high school that the student attends. Those in charge of the school must apply the well-known sanitary guidelines to avoid contagion of covid-19. The second round of testing is from December 8-13, where 465 special school students and 77,906 public high school students are expected to take the test. Students throughout the country started the school year in February, following a hybrid class plan, where they meet in person and virtually. Students were attending in-person classes three days a week. The other two days were virtual learning. All in-person student health sanitary guidelines were followed.
