The Daniel Oduber-Quirós International Airport (LIR), known as Guanacaste Airport, located in Liberia Canton in Guanacaste Province, was recognized by the Airports Council International, ACI.
Based in
Montreal, Canada, the ACI is a global
trade representative of the world's
airport authorities. Founded in 1991,
the organization represents airports'
interests with governments and
international organizations.

ACI awarded LIR as the Best Airport in Latin America and the Caribbean in the category of fewer than two million passengers, during the awards ceremony that took place in Krakow, Poland.
According to VINCI Airports, the company in charge of managing the airport, these are the most important awards in the aeronautical industry and are obtained through the evaluations made by passengers who have arrived or departed from that airport.
Guanacaste Airport also received a second prize for being the best in implementing health guidelines in Central America.
In the world ranking, the airport is among the best positions in terms of quality of service in its categories of region and size. This places Guanacaste airport among others such as the Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport (OPO) in Porto Port in Portugal, VINCI said.
“Travelers have spoken and Daniel Oduber-Quirós International Airport once again earned an award for the world-renowned Airport Service Quality program," said Luis Felipe de Oliveira, Director General of ACI.
Also, Edelweiss Airlines launched new flights between Zürich and Guanacaste.
As of June, there have been over 1.2 million tourists in Costa Rica.
Last year, over 1.3 million tourists visited Costa Rica.
