The current ID card for pensioners, known in Costa Rica as golden citizens, will be able to be used as a debit card in July.
Currently, the golden card is issued by Social Security to the population over 65 years of age to be used as an ID and includes some advantages such as using special ATMs in banks or obtaining priority medical attention in public clinics, among others.
The new golden card can also be linked to a bank account to use as a payment method at any public transport or obtain discounts in stores, restaurants, drugstores, private clinics and supermarkets among others.
The State-owned banks Nacional, Costa Rica, as well as the private bank BAC, will be able to issue the golden card to people who solicit it. The document displays information such as the photo of the account owner, the ID number and bigger font. People interested in obtaining the golden citizen card, including foreign residents, should go to any branch of the National, Costa Rica or BAC banks to request the document as of July 1st. ---------------------
