Free home delivery of medicines for increased coronavirus infected cases By the A.M. Costa Rica staff Social Security patients will have medicine delivered to their home, authorities announced Tuesday. The medicine delivery service is a collaboration between Social Security, the postal company Correos de Costa Rica and the car rental company Budget. Together, they will deliver medicine to the homes of chronic patients. The plan is to reduce the number of people leaving their homes in search of drugs and becoming infected with the coronavirus covid-19. The medication delivery service is free for Social Security patients. In an initial plan, deliveries will be made to registered patients in 47 clinics. As part of the agreement, Budget will assign 40 cars with their drivers, in addition to assuming the cost of fuel for each trip. The home delivery plan for medications is available to 5,000 patients throughout the country. Patients can request the home delivery service of medications to the line 905-6472583, extension 4. A Social Security representative will include the patient’s data in the delivery program. This home service is a result of an increase of patients infected with the coronavirus covid-19 in the country. On Tuesday authorities from the Ministry of Health confirmed 19 new cases of people infected with the coronavirus covid-19, increasing to a total of 177 patients in the country. Of the 177 patients, six are being treated in public hospitals. However, three of them have been reported in very delicate health conditions and are kept in intensive care. The patient’s ages range from 2 to 87. Of these, 154 people are between 14 and 70 years old. Sixteen patients are over 70 years old and 7 children under the age of 13. Of those infected, 78 are women (42%) and 103 are men (58%). It was reported that of those infected 159 are Costa Ricans and 18 are foreigners. The virus has spread throughout the country. Patient cases have been registered in 34 cantons disseminated among all the provinces. Since the virus was detected in the country, in the first week of March, 1,619 people have been ruled out. Two U.S. citizens have managed to overcome the disease. It is reported that they left the country. In Costa Rica two patients, both 87-year-old seniors, have died due to the coronavirus covid-19. ![]() As of Tuesday, the pandemic has killed 18,605 people around the world, according to recent statistics reported by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, CDC.
