By the A.M. Costa Rica staff This year, from January to October, despite the ban-on-driving rule, the limited hours allowed to open bars, stores and places to buy liquor, the traffic police reported 290 deaths caused by traffic accidents. Based on the ministry statistics, the death rate in vehicle crash accidents increased by 47 deaths, compared with the same period in 2020 when there were 243 deaths. Speeding and reckless driving caused a high number of accidents, they said. Also, from January to August, the police had fined 34,202 drivers for breaking the Traffic Law.
