Five Costa Rican students won the “Opportunity Funds” scholarship, according to Education USA.


Educacion USA is a worldwide network of more than 450 centers sponsored by the U.S. Department of State that promotes higher education at accredited universities in the United States.


According to the organization, the scholarships also cover the student's application process cost. Students who were admitted fully supported to U.S. universities are:


Daniel Vargas-Díaz is a graduate of the University of Costa Rica. He won a scholarship to pursue a Master's degree in Computer Science at Virginia Tech.


Keren Leitón-Villalobos, also a graduate of the University of Costa Rica. She won a scholarship to study Applied Linguistics and Teaching English at Indiana University.


Daniela Castillo-Pérez is a graduate of the Technological Institute of Costa Rica and a current student at the University of Costa Rica. She won a scholarship to study a master's program in Comparative Pathobiology at Purdue University.




Deily Alpízar-Fuertes won a scholarship to study International Business at John Brown University.


Miranda Agüero González won a scholarship to study Computer Science at Bennington College.


These five students received a total of 13 offers of admission to fully funded universities in the United States.


The scholarships awarded to these students are valued at more than $295,000. The funding is to finance their higher education at their respective universities for the 2022-2023 school year. Funds will cover their education and living expenses.


More Costa Rican students have won trips to the United States. Recently, three girls won a camp trip as part of the TechGirls program.
