The
Tourism Institute is developing an
advertising campaign to promote Costa
Rica as a tourist destination for
Mexicans.
As part of the campaign, 36 billboards
showing Costa Rican nature landscapes
were placed in high-traffic places such
as Paseo de las Culturas Amigas and
Paseo de la Reforma in Mexico City.
With the motto "A look at our Pura Vida
essence" the exhibition will be
available to the public until Nov. 2 to
allow pedestrians to learn more about
Costa Rica.
According to official data provided by
Mexico City officials, about 300,000
people pass through these streets per
month. Someone may be interested in
learning more about Costa Rica after
seeing the billboards.
As part of this campaign, authorities
allied with the chain of Mexican
restaurants "Carajillo" to include
traditional Costa Rican dishes on a
special menu that was prepared by Costa
Rican chef José González and Mexican
chef Juan Arroyo.
The menu includes roasted squashes,
Caribbean grilled shrimp and strawberry
custard ice cream among others.
“This photographic exhibition, as well
as the gastronomic experience that
Mexicans can enjoy in Costa Rica, seeks
to show you the essence of our country,
its natural beauties, its flavors and
the Pura Vida that characterizes us,”
Director of the Tourism Institute
Carolina Trejos said.
According
to the institute's statistics, this
year about 36,000 Mexican tourists
have arrived by air for vacations.
Tourism
is recovering this year. According
to the Juan Santamaría
International Airport, this year
more than 406,200 passengers
registered. This
figure is equivalent to a recovery
of 95% compared to the same month of
2019, the year before the pandemic.
This
year, Costa Rica won the award in
the category, "Best Destination
for Long Distance Travel," awarded
by the German travel magazine
Travelbook.
All the
advertising to travel to Costa Rica
has local authorities
expecting a significant increase
in tourism for the 2022-2023
cruise season. This
new season is expected to exceed the
number of cruise ships that arrived
in 2019.
Records
show that during the first half of
the year, there have been over 1.2
million tourists in Costa Rica.
Just
last year, over 1.3 million
tourists visited Costa Rica.
