Social Security recorded 7,879,899 applied vaccines against covid-19 in Costa Rica.

Authorities have established a herd immunity goal of at least 83% of the population, about 4,274,344 million fully-vaccinated people in the country.

Of that target-population, approximately 92% or 3,953,407 people have received their first dose. About 82% of that target or 3,546,380 people have completed their two-dose treatment.

Plus, another 380,112 people have received their booster shot. Only people over 65 are eligible for the booster or third dose post-six months after getting their second dose. There are certain public hospitals and clinics that are applying the third shot to people over the age of 18, as a part of their contingency plan.

The vaccination campaign includes nationals, residency DIMEX cardholders and immigrants regardless of immigration status living in Costa Rica over the age of 12. This month launches the campaign to vaccinate youth over the age of 5 years old. Recently, the government announced a budget of more than $23.3 million for the purchase of more Pfizer vaccines for kids.

Accessibility to getting the vaccine has not been an issue in inoculate people living in Costa Rica. In fact they are leading the way as the government established new covid-pass rules for businesses. They have applied a mandate for all public service employees to be fully vaccinated.

Authorities enabled 150 support centers across the nation to help people obtain their covid-pass. The voluntary use of this requirement to enter most places such as shops, restaurants, tourist places, among others, will take effect on Feb. 7.

Costa Rica has imported more than 8.2 vaccines against covid-19.

On Tuesday, the Ministry of Health reported 7,366 deaths listed as covid-19 related, approximately a 1.3% death rate. The pandemic has killed more than 5.4 million people worldwide, reported Johns Hopkins University.
