A U.S. woman citizen surnamed Armstrong, 34, was deported on Saturday to the United States, the General Directorate of Migration confirmed.

Armstrong was handed over to the U.S. authorities by officers of the Professional Migration Police, Migration said.

According to brief information on the case, Armstrong was arrested on June 29, in Cobano District, Puntarenas Province by officers of the Tourist Police.

That day, officers from the Santa Teresa Beach Police Station were conducting a routine patrolling surveillance operation. They requested the ID of people who are in public areas, including tourists.

When officers asked Armstrong for her ID, she allegedly handed over someone else's passport. During a first review of the document, the officers detected irregularities.

Following the guidelines for a possible case of false documents, they verified the passport with the authorities, determining that the document was fake.

The woman was arrested and taken to the Santa Teresa police station.

On June 30, Armstrong was taken before the Immigration Police in San José, where officers realized that she had an international arrest warrant issued by the International Police, Interpol.

According to authorities, the suspect had an international detention warrant issued by the U.S. due to a pending criminal case.

Armstrong arrived in Costa Rica on May 18. Allegedly, she presented a fake passport at the immigration posts, authorities said.

Another recent case of a U.S. citizen detained in Costa Rica happened on June 3, when a woman was arrested at SJO International Airport on suspicion of drug trafficking.

In May, another U.S. citizen was deported to the United States due to an international arrest warrant.

Also in May, police arrested a U.S. citizen man due to an international arrest warrant as a fraud suspect.
