The Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO), located in Alajuela Province, was included in the World's Airport Excellence Program (APEX).
The program is created by Airports Council International (ACI), a Canadian organization of over 2,000 airport authorities aimed at unifying industry practices for airport standards.
“It is vital that the Juan Santamaría International Airport has been included in the Airport Excellence Program (APEX) since it provides the opportunity to show international experts the operation standards, operational safety and compliance with the norm; effectively evidencing excellence in the different areas evaluated and identifying points for improvement that allow us to guarantee a safe experience for users,” Luis Miranda Muñoz, General Director of Aviation, said.
According to AERIS, the company in charge of managing the airport, experts from the airport industry visited the country to verify the safety of the airport's air operations and potential risk mitigation actions.
Additionally,
experts verified the security
conditions, the emergency plans, the
quality of the infrastructures and
the areas of the planes, among other
areas. Experts
highlighted the good lighting of the
runway and described it as excellent
for the respective taxiing, parking,
takeoff and landing maneuvers of the
aircraft, Aeris said in its
statement. The
airport manages 28 international
airlines traveling from 38
destinations around the world. In
one year over 5.4 million passengers
utilize the airport. The
visits of the experts were sponsored
by the U.S. Federal Aviation
Administration (FAA), Aeris added. What improvements should authorities make at airports? We would like to know your thoughts on this story. Send your comments to news@amcostarica.com ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
