The birthday of the United States is this Monday, July 4. The celebration of independence from England is one of the most anticipated days of the year when expats meet again with friends residing in Costa Rica. 


The U.S. Embassy and Consular Section will be closed on Monday to mark the 246 anniversary of the independence of the United States of America. The diplomatic headquarters will reopen on Tuesday, resuming normal business hours from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.


On Monday, the U.S. Ambassador, Cynthia Telles, is expected to pay tribute by placing a floral offering at the foot of the statue at the National Monument in National Park, San José as part of the traditional Independence Day celebrations. Later, the U.S. Embassy will hold the Independence Day Ceremony by live stream at 6 p.m. on its Facebook page.

 

Expats looking to celebrate the Fourth of July on Monday, have some options.

Democrats Abroad will host the Independence Day party at La Hacienda Restaurant, located on 105 Street, across from POPS IceCream shop in San Rafael Escazu, San José. The party is dog friendly. The live jazz show is performed by saxophonist Joshua Quinlan with Sharon Villegas on the keyboard. The American food menu includes hot dogs, hamburgers and veggie burgers available for purchase. Free admission. Make reservations by filling out the Google form.







Los Sueños Marina, in Herradura Beach, Puntarenas Province, is hosting a party with lunch or dinner options. The American menu plate is $26 pp, including BBQ chicken legs, cheeseburger and BBQ baby back ribs. There are extra dish options such as BBQ baked beans, potato salad, creamy coleslaw, apple pie, vanilla ice cream and special cocktails. The Mustang 65 rock band concert begins at 4:30 p.m. The night will end with a fan-favorite spectacle of fireworks. Make reservations by calling 2630-4050. America's party at Coco Beach, Guanacaste hosted by Zi Lounge Restaurant. Expats and their friends have a choice of lunch or dinner American menu BBQ ribs, pulled pork & buffalo chicken sliders. There will be drink specials all day. Live music starts at 6:30 by Gringo Garage Band. The evening closes with inevitable fireworks. Make reservations by calling 8888-3939.



The 4th of July Celebration at Bodhi Surf Yoga Beach Club in Nosara Beach, Guanacaste. In addition to a more healthy American menu, the party includes country music with a DJ and activities for children. Make reservations by calling 2682-0256.
