Matina Canton in Limón Province launches their campaign to attract tourists: "In the heart of the Caribbean is a treasure to be discovered."

The first video promo of Matina can be seen on AM Costa Rica YouTube channel.

According to the Matina Canton municipality, the campaign seeks to place them on the map of tourist destinations in the country, although it is a little-known place, they are rich in natural, cultural and historical attractions.

The launch of the advertising campaign is carried out as part of their celebration commemorating their 52nd anniversary since they were founded. Their goal is to boost tourism, attract investors, promote exports and reinforce the identity and sense of belonging of their citizens.

"The brand represents the essence and the heart of the Matina people, their customs, traditions and hopes,” Wálter Céspedes, Matina mayor said. "A promo video, precisely, is showing the nature, culture, gastronomy, history, identity and the tourist potential that the canton owns. We want this to be a turning point, a new beginning to achieve development and improve the quality of life of the inhabitants."

According to Céspedes, among the attractions of Matina is it is home for the Cabécar indigenous peoples who represent the origins of Costa Ricans. It is important for the world to know that, he said. "We are a land of smiling and friendly, vigorous, hard-working, honest and passionate people."

Matina Canton is located between the Pacuare River to the north and the Toro River to the south with an area of 772.64 square kilometers. It lies between the Madre de Dios River on the northwest side, the Toro River on the east and ranges on the south with the Talamanca mountain range.

The canton has natural assets such as Tortuguero canals that border its coastal area, it is one of the best destinations to see the arribada or arrival of the Leatherback Turtle (Dermochelys coriacea) and tropical birds such as the Agamí heron (Agamia agami).

In the upper area of the region is the Barbilla National Park, where wild animals such as jaguars, monkeys, reptiles can be seen.

Among the most common tourist activities are wild animal watching, mountain biking, hiking, and visiting the Cabécar territory.

In addition to commercials and advertisements as part of the strategy, authorities are designing an infrastructure road improvement plan to make Matina more accessible.
