As of Tuesday, there have been 7,580,046 vaccines against covid-19 applied in Costa Rica, according to Social Security.

Authorities have established a herd immunity goal of at least 83% of the population, about 4,274,344 million fully-vaccinated people in the country.

Approximately 92% of that target population or 3,934,813 people have received their first dose. About 80% of that target population or 3,444,299 people have completed their two-dose treatment.

Plus, another 200,934 people have received their booster shot. The booster shot is applied to people over the age of 65 in community clinics, known as Ebais. There are certain public hospitals that are applying the third shot, as a part of their contingency plan, to people over 18, granted they are post-six months after getting their second dose.

The vaccination campaign includes nationals, residency DIMEX cardholders and immigrants regardless of immigration status living in Costa Rica over the age of 12.

People interested in information on the vaccination program for a specific area, should call the Social Security Covid line 905-225-2000 or visit the Covid Vaccination Campaign website.

In January, the vaccination campaign will include children between the ages of 5 and 11 years old, according to the Ministry of Health.

Costa Rica has applied a vaccination mandate for all public service employees to be fully vaccinated. Also, they are leading the way as the government established new covid-pass rules for businesses.

Authorities enabled 150 support centers across the nation to help people obtain their covid pass.

There are more than enough vaccines available in Costa Rica. As of Friday, the country has imported 8,065,935 vaccines against covid-19.

As of Tuesday, authorities reported 7,343 deaths listed as covid-19 related, approximately a 1.3% death rate, according to the Health Ministry statistics. The pandemic has killed more than 5.3 million people worldwide, reported Johns Hopkins University.
