The government announced a budget of more than $23.3 million for the purchase of more Pfizer vaccines against covid-19, the supplies (that this treatment requires for its maintenance) and application campaign process.

According to the government, money was obtained from the Ministry of Finance budget and it was transferred to the National Emergency Fund.

The vaccines would be used in the vaccination campaign for children from 5 to 12 years old and also, continue with the application of third doses to the rest of the population.

"67% of our population has two doses, way better than many countries in the region and even beating several developed countries," said President Carlos Alvarado during the announcement of this new vaccines agreement. "During these 21 months of the pandemic we have made efforts in the government to protect our people and we will continue to guarantee the access to the vaccine to each person (in the country). "

Recently, the National Emergency Commission agreed on another new deal for the purchase of 3.5 million Pfizer vaccines. That purchase is valued at more than $1.5 million paid for by the National Insurance Institute.

As of Tuesday, there are about 82% of that target population or 3.5 million people have completed their two-dose treatment, according to Social Security.
